A documentary by Jackson Mouldycliff as part of the 2019 Looking China Project

THE TRIP - David Carson Collaboration with Composer Jackson Mouldycliff This work is a continuation of my interest in a technique originally developed by renowned cinematographer Douglas Trumbull for the Star Gate sequence in the film 2001- A Space Odyssey. Made in the days before digital technology, it’s one of the most spectacular movies in the history of film. My video makes use of new imaging technologies such as 360º video, which I used to capture sequences in Liverpool on a visit to the UK in 2018. Hence the title, The Trip. Although the video is located at a specific place - I have transformed the experiences into something extra-ordinary. A sort of poetic promenade through painting from reality into abstraction - rather in the manner of Brian Eno's audio-visual installations and my own-take on the Star Gate sequence! The soundtrack is by young UK composer Jackson Mouldycliff. The sound composition has been created in direct response to my images and ‘found’ sounds and voices, which are then interwoven into a tapestry of sonic textures and electronic drones. 1920 x1080p resolution HD (codec H264)

This is a re imagining of the music for a 1938 animation by Norman Mclaren using instrumentation and tecniques from the world of Jazz music to draw parallels with the frantic back and forth chase of the video

This is a re-scoring that I did of a 2015 Honda Commercial using a blend of synthesised elements with live guitar interjections. This composition uses minimalist scoring tecniques to seemlessly integrate a sonic branding element at the end of the advert into the fabric of the music.
